Spring Equinox: The Slow Return of Spring

Monday March 20th at 6:30 am marks Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. Astrologically, spring equinox occurs when the sun shifts from 29° of Pisces to 0° Aries in the zodiac wheel.

Aries is a cardinal sign. Cardinal signs mark the beginning of seasons (like Spring), and therefore carry an initiatory energy. Aries likes to take charge- act first, think later.  It is all about leadership and fast action.

This is a stark contrast as we leave the sign of Pisces, which is a much slower moving, dream-like fantasy.  These last few days of Pisces have us clearing out old stagnation, shaking off the dust from winter hibernation, and preparing to take action on the things we have been dreaming up.

Spring is the time for planting seeds to grow through the rest of year, making this the perfect time to refine what seeds we want to sow in our lives.  The energy of fiery Aries leads us into spring with a new sense of liveliness, ready to act.  This year, that energy may feel a little slower to come around.  When the Sun moves into Aries, we are still in the midst of Venus retrograde in Aries  and Saturn will go retrograde at the beginning of April.  Retrograde planets seem to move slower, so the initial first breaths of spring may not feel sluggish at first.

No matter what, spring is coming and Aries will bring its fiery spark to get us going, followed by the stability of earthy Taurus to help sustain our actions.  It’s time to clear out the cobwebs, climb out from under that pile of blankets and let the light back in!
